Sidi Cycling Shoes Sidi_logo

The Sidi shoe brand has a long and storied history, and is one of the most coveted shoes on the market today. Founded in 1960 by 15 year old bike racer Dino Signori, Sidi was at first dedicated to mountaineering footwear in a small craftsman's shop. In the 1970's he expanded into bicycle and motorcycle shoes to create highly technical and innovative footwear.

In 1973 Sidi revolutionized the market by introducing the first set of cycling shoes with an adjustable cleat system that did not involve fixing the cleat to the sole with tacks. This system called Titanium would become the new standard. In 1979 Sidi introduced the word to the nylon sole, in 1983 the first Velcro strap enclosure, and in 1985 the first dedicated mtb shoe. They introduced the first ratcheting closure system in 1989 and the first monofilament line buckle system 1993. Throughout the years Sidi has continued to release innovations such as the first carbon sole, many of which we now take for granted as standard features on a good set of cycling shoes.

Today Signori is still at the helm of the Sidi factory in Maser, Italy and the tradition continues with high quality cycling shoes of Italian manufacture. Sidi cycling shoes are the shoe of choice by many pro and amateur racers around the world. They are designed for the high mileage cyclist that requires both comfort and rigidity without sacrifice.

Sidi shoes are designed for comfort, performance and longevity. They are a premium shoe that commands a premium price. If you want a shoe that will last for years while retaining top notch fit and performance these are a great buy.

Sidi Cycling Shoe Fit

Refer to our shoe fit tips section for general tips on fitting cycling shoes. The following Sidi size chart will give you your American vs European sizing conversion. Sidi Shoe Size Chart

Sidi Shoe Widths:

Standard: The standard-size width is a D.
Narrow: Narrow models are considered B to C width
Mega: Mega widths are 4mm wider over the ball of the foot, have more volume, and are a EE to EEE width. If you have a high instep or high volume orthotics you may be more comfortable in the mega width.

Woman's and Men's Shoes: Sidi shoes are gender specific. The woman's shoes are built on a woman's specific last. The heel is narrower than the men's shoe and the forefoot is lower volume but proportionally wider then the men's shoe. The woman's shoe does not come in Mega or Narrow widths but uses the narrow width heelcup. Women with larger width feet may fit the men's narrow width models better.

Sidi Shoe Sizes:

Sidi builds in full and half sizes. Half size is built on a specific last that is 3mm longer than the equivalent full size shoe which is 6mm between sizes.

If you already own a pair of Sidi cycling shoes you can find the euro size stamped on the backside of the tongue in all post 2002 models except for triathlon shoes. The size to half size is followed by M (Mega), S (Narrow) or W (Woman's). So a men's 45.5 mega would be 45½ M or 45½ S for the slim model. A woman's 40 would be 40W. The size stamped on the sole is only the size to the nearest whole size, so refer to the tongue for exact sizing.

Each of the above soles are very lightweight and stiff. The hand laid carbon is made exclusively of high modulus T700 carbon in a 3k weave pattern. They employ opposing angles in the layup to maximize stiffness while still allowing for a slight amount of controlled flex in the toe to relieve stress on the plantar tendon.

All shoes have anti-slip toe inserts and replaceable polyurethane heel pads. All of them except the SP Carbon have the standard three hole pattern, while the SP Carbon has the four hole pattern to accommodate Speedplay cleats.

The Eleven Carbon Comp is designed as a triathlon shoe with a carbon/nylon 12 composite sole impervious to moisture. It is designed to allow special flex in the toe box and be durable during transitions.

The Vent Carbon differs from the other soles in the weight which is a large 38 grams lighter. It also has a integrated vents and air channels in the sole to dissipate heat. The vent on the toe can be either opened or closed depending on the amount of cooling required.

The Millennium 3 Carbon Composite Sole comprises carbon fiber injected into a matrix of Nylon 6 with claimed rigidity 37% more than a regular nylon sole. The injection of carbon into nylon acts to prevent cracking, warping, and expansion or shrinkage of the sole due to environmental conditions. This sole also includes a anti-slip toe and heel pad which is replaceable.

The innovative Dragon Carbon SRS Sole features a carbon Fiber plate that bolts along with replaceable tread blocks to a nylon frame. This design creates a small amount of flex for running while maintaining stiffness for optimal power transfer while pedaling. Both carbon inserts and the tread blocks are replaceable. The Dragon SRS is also toe spike compatible and has a two hole cleat mounting pattern for mtb cleats.

Sidi's Sole Replacement System enables removal and replacement of high wear tread blocks. The tread blocks are made of softer material to allow better traction and adhesion while running. The mid sole anti-slip insert helps to alleviate the pain of a missed remount, welcome for cyclocross and mtb racers alike.

Note: The Sidi Dominator 5 (not shown) contains the Competition Sole.

Sidi Closure Systems

Sidi has been at the forefront of cycling shoe design consistently first to market with numerous innovations. The standard closure systems are as follows:

Sidi Soft Instep Closure System Sidi Caliper Buckle Sidi Techno II Buckle Sidi High Security Velcro  Sidi Adjustable Heel Security System
Soft Instep Closure System® Caliper Buckle Techno II Buckle® High Security Velcro® Adjustable Heel Security System®

Adjustable from both sides and replaceable, the Soft Instep Closure System® is a wide, anatomically curved strap combined with a soft, thermo-formed EVA pad that distributes pressure evenly over the instep area.

The current Caliper Buckle is the latest incarnation of SIDI’s famed ratcheting shoe closure. It ratchets in both directions, allowing for precise, incremental tightening and loosening of the closure, for easy on-the fly microadjustment. Pulling upward on the lower lever tightens the strap, click by click; pressing down on the upper lever loosens it a step at a time; an outward pull on both side levers completely releases the buckle. The very first monofilament line(fishing line) buckle was created by SIDI in 1993, revolutionizing shoe design with the first-ever precision closure system. The latest version of that system, SIDI’s Techno II Buckle®, provides even pressure distribution with fine-tooth ratchet adjustment of string tension, for ultra-smooth adjustment that helps the shoe’s upper conform to the shape of the foot for a customized fit. In 2002 SIDI introduced High Security Velcro® (globally patented). High Security Velcro® integrates interlocking polymer teeth into the straps that engage when the strap is closed. The polymer teeth provide a more secure, slip-free closure and dramatically increase the useful life of the Velcro® strap. Today High Security Velcro® remains an exclusive feature of SIDI cycling shoes. For 2012 the redesigned Adjustable Heel Retention Device® is slightly wider, with drilled-out side wings for reduced weight and improved ergonomics. The Adjustable HSS® reinforces the top of the heel cup, and securely closes the back of the shoe around the heel above the calcaneus (heel bone). The Adjustable HSS® provides 6 mm of lateral adjustment on either side of the heel, improving power transfer and comfort by eliminating heel lift. Each side of the heel can be adjusted independently for an absolutely perfect fit.

Sidi Shoe Technologies

The main Sidi cycling shoe technologies such as the heelcup and Lorica uppers can be found throughout the Sidi lineup while those such as the toe guards and dual-density insoles are found on the high end models.

Sidi Heel Cup Sidi Lorica Sidi SRS Toe Guard Sidi Dual Density Insoles
Sidi Heel Cup Lorica® SRS Toe Guard® Sidi Dual-Density Insoles

Inspired by SIDI motorcycle boot technology, the SIDI Heel Cup is an external, reinforced cup that stabilizes and supports the heel. The sturdy, anatomically shaped plastic design keeps its shape and doesn’t break down over time, helping reduce heel slip and provide increased power transfer. The SIDI Heel Cup also provides additional foot protection in the event of a crash.

Lorica® is an exceptionally soft, supple microfiber synthetic leather possessing all of leather’s positive attributes, without any of the attendant shortcomings. It is waterrepellent, quick-drying, breathable and permeable to water vapor, making it an ideal material for shoe uppers. It is abrasion- and mildew-resistant, and resists stretching and deterioration from atmospheric agents.

Optional toe guard that can be installed using the same screws as the SRS Sole® tread. The SRS Toe Guard® is compatible with all SIDIs featuring the SRS® sole.

SIDI Dual-Density Insoles provide better foot support for improved comfort and performance, with a soft-durometer pad under the ball of the foot that dissipates pressure, reducing hotspots and improving vibration damping. The footbed’s felt finish improves moisture management and heat dissipation.
